History Originally, Abutilon was created as a simple tree spirit, tied to a single massive tree. In time, the forest began being cut down and he retreated into his tree, focusing on his growth. At one time, it was believed that the trees roots reached tapped into the deepest secrets of the world, although he will tell you otherwise. In such a state of dormancy, he kept to himself for a century. In time, simple people discovered his tree and astounded by the size, created a town around it. Watching the humans, Abutilon grew interested in them and began to visit them, learning with them and using his old knowledge of fortune telling to keep them entertained. As children became adults and their children had children the fields around the village began to suffer. Abutilon's unrestrained growth had irreparable destroyed the nutrient stores of the land around the village inadvertently leading to famine. With their lives at stake and the original friendliness towards the spirit gone, a call to the cities for a subjugation force was called. Abutilon, who had never known violence found his home burning and the people hunting for him like that of a wild animal. For a week, the former mascot of the town gathered what power of his he could find and finally tore himself from his tree. Battered, beaten and weak, he began travelling westward until he happened upon a ship. After stowing away in the cargo hold, he fell into a dormant state, using this time to rest and regain his energy. A months travel in, the vessel was torn apart by a storm and Abutilon found himself washed up on the shores of an unknown land. Working his way into the prairie land, he once again set down roots and began his hibernation this time, taking care to not damage his surroundings. Another century passed before he could sense the stir of life. Perhaps it had been there since before he woke this time. Opening his eyes, he stepped from the hollow of the tree and stretched. It was once again time to see what people had settled around him. Additional Image References |
